Ermelunden is a garden furniture series designed by the furniture designer Børge Mogensen in 1965. The name Ermelunden is taken from a small forest in Gentofte, close to where he lived. Intended as a stationary furniture arrangement, the bench set is made of sturdy, solid ash planks that withstands all kinds of weather and adapts to changing humidity and temperature levels.

The wood has been given a modern heat treatment, which reduces its natural ability to absorb moisture. As a result, the furniture can be left outdoors in all seasons. It was imperative for Børge Mogensen that his furniture was highly functional. And so it is no coincidence that he chose to give Ermelunden wide feet to prevent the legs from sinking into the grass.

Moreover, Børge Mogensen was aware of people’s different sitting positions, which is why the backrest is shaped with two different angles, providing support when either sitting up straight or when adopting a more relaxed posture. Børge Mogensen was so pleased with Ermelunden that he chose to have the furniture in his private garden in Gentofte and also at his holiday home near Limfjorden in central Jutland.

About FDB Moebler

In the early 1940s some young, courageous furniture architects were given the task of developing beautiful, functional furniture at attractive prices. Good furniture design and high quality should not only be reserved for the most prosperous in society. FDB Møbler was established to create the framework for close family values and a democratic community. Now 75 years later the old classics, originally designed by Børge Mogensen, Poul M. Volther and others, are developed from the same principles.
